Straightening Your Teeth without Anyone Knowing

If, like millions of others across the world, you’re ashamed of your smile, you’ve probably considered your options many a time. Most of us can’t afford veneers and similarly, most of us, as adults, wouldn’t want to wear metal fixed braces on our teeth for two years or more.

As such, do we really have to simply accept that we’ve got a smile we’re unhappy with or is there, in fact, a solution? We caught up with South Kensington based orthodontist, Claire Nightingale, to take a look.

Invisible Orthodontics

In recent years, orthodontic treatments have developed significantly and there’s now a number of different options for those wanting to straighten their smiles without anyone knowing. Perhaps you had braces as a teenager and didn’t wear your retainers or simply didn’t like the thought of braces in high school. Whatever the reason you’ve never had treatment before, you’re not alone and there’s a number of options available to you:

Invisalign

Invisalign really does offer invisible orthodontics and uses a series of clear aligners to straighten your teeth, each of which are worn for two weeks at a time. If you’re looking for a solution where no one would be able to tell you’re having orthodontic treatment, Invisalign is likely the perfect solution for you and offers you a great solution, albeit at a slightly higher price than traditional braces. For many, however, the cost is nothing compared to how discreet they are. Invisalign has been popular in recent years with celebrities including Cheryl Cole and Justin Bieber.

Lingual Braces

If, on the other hand, you have a more complex case which Invisalign may not be suitable for, you still have options! Lingual braces still use metal brackets and wires but, as opposed to these sitting on the front surface of your teeth, sit behind them. As such, unless someone knows they’re there or is looking in your mouth, they’ll have absolutely no idea you’re wearing braces. In recent years, presenter Myleene Klass has been seen showing off her lingual braces in the spotlight.

Ceramic Braces

If you’re prepared to compromise a little, ceramic braces could well offer you a solution in that they still use brackets and wires on the front of your teeth but use ceramic, tooth coloured ones. As such, from a distance no one would ever guess you’re wearing braces and there’s certainly no metal shine as is the case with traditional fixed braces. Holly Willoughby recently had ceramic braces and you’d have been hard pushed to tell if she hadn’t pointed it out on Twitter!

At the end of the day, if you’re ashamed of your smile, it doesn’t have to be that way! With a range of almost invisible treatments available, you’re able to have treatment which doesn’t turn you into a metal mouth and which, above all else, see’s you getting your dream smile! If it’s something you’ve considered, do yourself a favour and book an appointment with your local orthodontist, we’re convinced you won’t regret it and, at the end of your treatment, will be glad you made the call!
